What are the common materials for making prototype parts?


The general materials for making prototypes include: ABS, PMMA, PA, PP, PC, POM, PEEK, POM, PEI, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, brass, etc. ABS prototype models are generally widely used in medical device casings with relatively strong connectivity. They are mostly used in metal plating products, such as water plating and vacuum evaporation plating. The material types include round rods, plates, etc. Aluminum alloy is a commonly used metal material. Its strength and hardness are very good. Aluminum alloys in the 6063, 6061, and 7075 series are commonly used, and are generally subjected to sandblasting and oxidation surface treatment.

What are prototype parts?


A prototype is one or several functional prototypes that are made based on product appearance drawings or structural drawings without opening a mold, and are used to check the rationality of appearance or structure. To put it simply, prototypes are samples of products. They are generally needed when developing new products, mainly to verify whether the product design is feasible. In the product design process, after completing the design drawings, one of the most important things you want to do is to know how the thing you designed will look like in real form, whether the appearance matches your design ideas, whether the structural design is reasonable, etc. Prototype manufacturing was born in response to this demand.

Which processing method is suitable for prototype parts?


CNC machining: CNC is the most accurate among the prototype processing methods. The characteristics of CNC processing prototype model are fast processing speed, low cost, high processing accuracy, and strong sense of reality of the prototype, which can achieve a very high level of surface quality. Material selection It has a wide range and ensures the consistency of materials for prototype models and mass-produced parts. After subsequent processing such as grinding, polishing, sandblasting, painting, silk screen printing, UV, electroplating, etc., the production effect is completely comparable to the products produced by molds.


3D printing molding: The commonly used process for 3D printing is SLA photosensitive resin laser molding. 3D printing has the advantages of fast manufacturing speed, low manufacturing cost, high production efficiency, and can achieve seamless connections. Its processing accuracy is lower than CNC processing, and the material is brittle, but it can complete positions that CNC processing cannot. Therefore, this processing method is often used for prototypes with complex structures and low strength requirements.
